First, there are triangles; then, there are squares. Next is the hexagon. Now, say hello to the lines. No, this is not a geometry assignment for your sixth grade students. This is the latest member of Nanoleaf’s growing catalog of modular LED light panels. The new Nanoleaf Lines are ultra-light, color-changing strip lights. Backlit, they are connected at a 60-degree angle to create a geometric design of your choice, and through two-color areas, lines ($199.99) can add a visual feast to any wall or ceiling.
Like Nanoleaf’s Shapes, Canvas, and Elements wall panels, Lines can be installed with pre-adhesive double-sided tape, making it easy to install-although you need to plan your design before submission. Powered by a large plug with a 14.7-foot cable, each line emits 20 lumens, the color temperature ranges from 1200K to 6500K, and it can display more than 16 million colors. Each power supply can connect up to 18 lines, and use the Nanoleaf app, the remote control on the device, or use the voice control of a compatible voice assistant to control them. The Lines only works on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network
Nanoleaf provides 19 preset dynamic RGBW lighting scenes in the app (meaning they change colors), or you can create your own scenes to add atmosphere to your home theater or enhance your favorite leisure space. Lines also works with Nanoleaf’s music visualization technology to synchronize with songs in real time.
Unlike the recent Elements panel, which is suitable for more traditional home decorations, Lines has a very futuristic vibe. To be honest, it seems to be tailored for the YouTuber background. The appearance of the backlight is also different from other shapes, which cast light outward instead of facing away from the wall. This product line also seems to be designed for gamers. Especially when Lines is integrated with Nanoleaf’s screen mirroring function, you can synchronize your lights with the colors and animations on the screen. This requires the Nanoleaf desktop application, but it can also be used with the TV using an HDMI connection.
Nanoleaf’s entire smart lighting series is compatible with Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT, allowing you to control, dim and change the design using voice commands or through smart home programs. In addition, like its current lighting panels, Nanoleaf’s Lines can act as a Thread border router, connecting Essentials series bulbs and light strips to your network without a third-party hub.
Ultimately, Nanoleaf said that any device that supports Thread will use Nanoleaf border routers to connect to the Thread network. Thread is a key technology in the Matter smart home standard, which aims to unify smart home devices and platforms and allow more interoperability. Nanoleaf said that the design of Lines takes “substance” into consideration and will be used in conjunction with the new standard through a software update next year.
Nanoleaf Lines will be pre-ordered from Nanoleaf’s website and Best Buy on October 14. The Smarter package (9 rows) is priced at $199.99, and the expansion package (3 rows) is priced at $79.99. The black and pink appearance for customizing the front appearance of Lines, as well as flexible connectors for connecting corners, will be launched later this year.
